When was the pressure cooker first introduced?

The first pressure cooker came about when a French experimentalist, named Denis Pugin went to London to work for Robert Boyle.

Here he demonstrated a steam food ‘digester’ at the end of the 17th century. It was a container with a tight fitting lid which increased the pressure within whilst simultaneously raising the water temperature to boiling point.
