Who are the Walloons?

They are the people who live in the southern east part of Belgium. Some speak Walloon whilst the others speak French but with a certain accent and words being slightly different from that used in France.

They inhabit the regions of the Belgian provinces of Hainaut, Namur, Luxembourg and part of Liège together with the district of Nivelles in Brabant.

The word “Walloon” was derived from the term “Walha” and was originally used by the ancient Germans to specify romanized celtic tribes. The Walloons are the descendants of a mixture of Gallo-Romans with Germanic Frankish.
