He was a magnificent African ruler who was part Moslem Turk and part West African.
He built up an empire which he named the Songhoi Empire during the 1520s. It is now known as Nigeria.
He introduced an up to date government and a taxation service and aslo founded a university at Timbucktoo. He also formed a regular police force.
Canals were also dug for irrigation and trade purposes.
